China Printmaking Museum is the important academic program of Guanlan Original Printmaking Base and the important component of the overall plan of the Base. It is also the guarantee of the academics of the Base’s development and a museum exclusive to print art. It is striving to become the academic center of printmaking of China and even of the world.

General Introduction of China Printmaking Museum

China Printmaking Museum covers an area of 17,600 square meters. Its total square footage is 18,600 square meters. Divided into Zones A and B,the Museum has in its public space Zone A exhibition halls,galleries,artistic bookstores,handcraft rooms,multi- functional academic halls,research centers and so forth. Within Zone B,there are general offices,Department of Academic Exchange,Department of Exhibition,Department of Reservation and Research and Department of Promotion of Public Education. They will serve as an access through which the public appreciate the art of printmaking and be able to a ord it.

 

Exhibition Hall

There are Halls 1、2 and 3. Hall 1 is for the permanent exhibitions,Maximan covering 6,000 square meters. Its wall can be extends 2000 meters. ERCO lighting and display cabinets of CTHM of German is applied for the Hall.

Print Art Communication Center-Handcraft Studio

The handcraft workshop,divided into Print Experience Zone and Activity Room,is on the first floor of the Museum,covering 400 square meters. The Print Experience Zone is equipped with woodcut/copperplate zone,type printing zone,book-binding zone and silkscreen zone. The public will be allowed in for experiencing printmaking on workdays. The Activity Room is set especially for art courses,where studios,small-scale lectures and exhibitons and group experience can be realized.

 

Lan ·Gallery

The Art Space,established by China Printmaking Museum and Beijing WQSY Culture Co. Ltd.,provides services of investment consultation,display and sale of print,agent of trading,etc. It is dedicated to developing the contemporary artistic creation of greatest value and those worthy of being collected,and building a platform of art exchanges for artists from domestic and abroad.

Multi-functional Academic Lecture Hall

Lecture Halls and Video Halls. There are systems of audio,video,and simultaneous interpretation in the lecture hall. With well-appointed eqipment and comprehensive function,it can hold medium-sized activities like lectures,forums of around 120 people. In the video hall,there are small-sized audio and video equipment. It can hold small-scale activities of exchange,interaction and teaching demonstration.

Print Art Research Center

The space for printmaking study and research and for collisions of ideas from domestic and abroad. Albums of print exhibitons,collections of articles and research material of theories from domestic and abroad will be shared.

Storage Rooms

There are one transfershed and two storage rooms covering 1,080 square meters. It has 380 sections of dense cabinets of wire frame,drawer,beam. The inside part of the storage rooms are all furnished with woodplates,CTHM system,gas fire control system,vibration monitoring system,water immersion monitoring system,infrared monitoring system and video monitoring system. The collection of printmaking works have been preserved in an all-round manner.

 

Collection Management Room

The transfer room of the Museum is responsible for scanning,photographing,and managing collection. It has the professional scanner and photography device of German CRUSE.

China·Guanlan International Print Biennial

The Guanlan International Print Biennial is an academic platform on the art of printmaking designed for the sharing of artistic concepts and viewing of some of the best contemporary prints. It has been 10 years since the first Biennial. The China Printmaking Museum, completed in 2014, is an important part of the overall plan of the Guanlan Original Printmaking Base and provides more professional work and exhibition space for the Biennial. Five Biennials have been successfully held respectively in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. The Fifth Guanlan International Print Biennial in 2017 has received 4,054 works of 2,175 artists from 83 countries and regions, among which 304 works have been selected for the Biennial after two rounds of assessment and 13 works have been awarded Guanlan International Print Prize. These works demonstrate the artists’ creativity, wisdom and deep feelings and also represent the first-rate techniques and concepts of the international printmaking artists, which undoubtedly provide cohesion in the printmaking community. Currently, the seventh Guanlan International Print Biennial in 2019 is under preparation. 

Chinese Print Exhibition

Ushering in the 21st century, Chinese printmaking is more inclusive and has multilevel development and the boundary in the contemporary art context has been expanded. At the same time, exhibitions, popularization, collection and propagation of printmaking are increasingly more active, receiving great attention from art circles at home and abroad. To summarize the new tendencies, phenomena and works of Chinese printmaking in recent years and improve the development of print art, China Printmaking Association, Print Art Committee of China Artists Association, Shenzhen Longhua District Government, China?Guanlan Original Printmaking Base, together with China Printmaking Museum, organized Chinese Printmaking Exhibition. In view of the great influence and large-scale of China Printmaking Museum, through negotiation, China Printmaking Museum was set to be the permanent venue for Chinese Printmaking Exhibition. Since the 1st Chinese Printmaking Exhibition was inaugurated on the opening ceremony of China Printmaking Museum in 2014, Chinese Printmaking Exhibition has successfully been conducted for three sessions, among which the third session converged print works created nationwide in the recent two years, and selected 245 pieces of excellent work that intensively display the confidence in culture of domestic printmaking artists and the latest development and academic level of contemporary Chinese printmaking. 

Guanlan Forum

Guanlan Forum is a regular academic exchange program of China Printmaking Museum, aiming to converge professions of international print art, share and learn experience of management and development of different printmaking institutions, undertake research and analyse the current situation of print art, and discuss the common problems in the development of print art in the context of internationalization.
